Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 2/25/18

Two for one!  2013 Upper Deck Ultimate Triple Jersey and Patch UJ3-JCW and UJ3-SJW

I decided to post two "Seek of the Week" cards today, They are different variations from the same set, namely, the 2013 Upper Deck Ultimate Triple Jersey and Patch set. The Ultimate set has a bunch of different subsets. From the 2013 Ultimate set; I have some single patch and jersey cards of Herschel. I have one dual card, and one quad card, which features 4 different players, but so far, no triples.

The top card features Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell and Herschel, all in college uniforms. The bottom card shows Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson and Walker.

Herschel is also on a third "triple" version, along with Bo and Billy Sims.  Thanks to COMC.com, for the use of these images.

2012 Upper Deck #25

This is a base card which I thought I had in my collection, but was surprised to find that I did not.  I've probably uploaded 95% of the Herschel Walker images on the Trading Card Database, and of the other 5% that other collectors have uploaded, I usually already have that card.

Sometimes though, one falls through the cracks.  That was the case with this 2012 Upper Deck #25. Sure is nice to make a card purchase that doesn't feel like I'm taking out a mortgage on my house.

I Took Inventory at the Hoard. Here's Card #650

2008 Donruss Playoff Silver Signatures #SS-HW

I took inventory at the Herschel Hoard and found that I actually have more different cards than what I originally thought.  I now have a total of 650 different Herschel Walker cards. This 2008 Donruss Silver Signatures card, which I just purchased, comes in at #650.

The Trading Card Database currently lists 895 cards for Walker, but of course that figure changes as new sets are added.  Many of those cards are 1 of 1's, and even those that are serial numbered 10 or less are going to be tough to come by.  But I'll keep plugging away, and adding new cards when possible.

The 2016 Panini Recollection Collection borrowed this image for that set, and I'm proud to say, that card is in the Hoard as well.

1997 Pinnacle Printing Plates #72 Yellow Front

In 1997, Pinnacle Brands randomly inserted in its Pinnacle football set; as well as other sets,  the original individual printing plates used to make each card. There were a total of 8 examples for each card.
They featured the four colors used to make the card: Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow; and both the front and back of each plate was randomly issued.

The plates were signed by then CEO of Pinnacle Brands, Jerry Meyer.  The idea was tried again in 1998, but those plates were unsigned.  Things didn't work out profit wise, for Pinnacle, and they declared bankruptcy in 1999.

Meyer was named Beckett's Sports Card Executive of the Year in 1998, but because the company went bankrupt just a short time afterwards, the award was discontinued.

I remember reading somewhere that if one was lucky enough to pull all eight plates for a particular card, that there was a bonus from Pinnacle of several thousand dollars.  I don't know if that was true or not.

The plates now pop up once in a while on the secondary market, and are usually pretty pricey. This is the second printing plate I have in the Hoard, but so far, the only signed edition.

The 1997 Pacific Invincible card set had four parallels.  In addition to the base cards, there were copper, platinum blue, red, and silver. I have the base card and the first three parallels, but as yet, have not been able to snag the silver version.  It is shown above, courtesy of COMC.com

2005 Georgia Legends #2

This card is part of a 42 card set issued in 2005, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1980 Georgia Bulldogs national championship team.

Herschel Walker was the star player on this team, which defeated Notre Dame in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, to claim the title as the top team in college football.  The set was sponsored by Kodak.

I'm very pleased to add it to the Herschel Hoard.
