2011 Upper Deck Exquisite UD Black Signatures #B-HW

Just added this 2011 Upper Deck Exquisite Black Signatures card of Herschel to the Hoard.  I really like the red of the Georgia uni against the black background, and the card has a nice, sharp signature.

This card is serial numbered to 45, with this example being 18.  It's kind of hard to see, but the serial number is just to the right of the #34 in the autograph.

I actually cracked this out of a Beckett holder.  The reason is that I keep my cards raw in toploaders, for the most part, and also, I wanted to upload the card to the TCDB.

Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Dec 16, 1990 Ticket

My last couple of posts have featured Herschel during his stint with the Vikings.  In keeping with that theme, I just added this to the Hoard.

It appears to be a first stage ticket, that is, one which has yet to have the section, seating or price printed on it.

The ticket is for the December 16th, 1990 game at Tampa Stadium, between the Vikings and the Buccaneers.

A nice picture of Herschel in a Viking uniform is featured on the ticket.  In the game, which Minnesota lost by a score of 26-13, Walker carried 7 times for 36 yards.  He caught two passes for 9 yards; and also returned three kickoffs for 64 yards.

He scored a one yard TD, late in the fourth quarter.

1991 D.A.R.E. Celebrity Softball Classic Pin

Here's an unusual item featuring Herschel, which I recently obtained for the Hoard.  This is a pin promoting the D.A.R.E. Celebrity Softball Classic.

D.A.R.E. stood for Drug Abuse Resistance Education,  a program set up to highlight the dangers of drug abuse, especially to children.  Herschel Walker took a strong anti-drug use stance during his career.

From what I could find, the event took place between June 28th and 30th, 1991; at the University of Minnesota.  Walker, of course, played for the Vikings at this time, and can be seen in the lower left of the image, in a purple Minnesota Vikings jersey.

I think the man seated to Herschel's left might be Neal Broten of the Minnesota North Stars of the N.H.L.

I don't know who the other two athletes pictured are.  One is in a Minnesota Twins uniform. I thought maybe it was Kirby Puckett, but I don't think so.  The other guy is what looks like a basketball jersey.

If anyone reading this knows who the other guys are, please leave a comment and let me know.

Pocket Football Schedules featuring Herschel Walker

I have added a couple of pocket football schedules that show images of Herschel, to the Hoard.   Below is a 1988 Dallas Cowboys schedule in unfolded condition:

I also picked up a 1990 Minnesota Vikings schedule that has Walker on the front.   This one has been folded:

When the U.S.F.L. folded, it was a fairly big deal when Dallas drafted Herschel, and of course when he was traded to Minnesota, it was even more of an event.
Sadly, things didn't work out  as well as hoped during Herschel's stint with the Vikings, but at the time, he was a big deal, so I wasn't surprised to see him featured on both the Cowboys and Vikings schedules.
I really was kind of surprised that he didn't make the cut on any of the N.J. Generals pocket schedules, however.
The 1983-1985 Generals schedules feature a corporate sponsor.  Herschel does not appear on pocket schedules for either the Philadelphia Eagles, or the N.Y. Giants, during the years he played for them.
