Other than the Performers Jersey Combos Prime Autographs; which is a 1-1 card; this is the only card I'm lacking from this series. I'll keep my eyes peeled, and hopefully, will someday add it to the Hoard. The image is courtesy of COMC.com.
A never ending quest for Herschel Walker, base, insert, parallel and commemorative cards.

Monarch Corona Rookie All Stars #5
Monarch Corona is an interesting card set. I was unfamiliar with them, but a google search led me to a great card blog entitled, "Can't Have Too Many Cards". There I learned that Monarch Corona were lithograph cards, printed in limited edition, by a printer named Jim Miller Jr.
There was a link to the Monarch Corona on the blog, but when I went to the site, sadly it said that no more sports cards were being printed; and that the entire inventory was sold to a couple of EBay dealers.
One of those, is a fellow named, Jim Milo. His site is called Grouchy Old Man Baseball Cards.
It's from Jim that I purchased the above Herschel Walker card. I have seen a few other cards from this set; I know there is a Dan Marino #8; a Tony Dorsett #9, a Warren Moon #11, and a Lee Roy Selmon #15.
I had hoped that a checklist might be available, but when I contacted Jim, he did not have a checklist, nor did he know exactly how many cards were made. Without a checklist, I can't enter it into the Trading Card Database, but it's still a nice card to add to the Hoard.
It appears they took the design for the obverse of the card from the 1961 Topps Baseball set. Here's a Sandy Koufax card for comparison:
The little trophy representing All Star Rookies is a different design, but you can see where the idea may have originated, as shown on the 1965 Topps Dick Allen card, below:

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 12/24/17
2008 Upper Deck Icons N.F.L Legends Gold Die Cut #LEG-10
I have the base card in this set, as well as the silver and blue die cut; but so far, the gold die cut version has eluded me. So, I remain in pursuit.

A Pair of 2005 Donruss Significant Signatures
I picked up two more examples of the 2005 Donruss Significant Signatures set for the Herschel Hoard.
First is the Bronze:
That card is serial numbered to 100, with this being #21.
Next is the Silver:
This card is number 3, out of a run of 75. Welcome to both cards as they join the Hoard.

1997 Stadium Club First Day Issue #138
As I've noted previously, I'm always glad to add a card to the Hoard from Herschel's active playing days, that I don't already have.
In this case, it's a 1997 Stadium Club First Day Issue #138. The picture is the same on each variation, but there are slight differences from the base card. You can see the words "First Day Issue", just above Walker's name on the front of this example.
It really makes my day when a card like this pops up for sale. The fact that you don't see them all that often; and that this one was reasonably priced, was a real find.
Another parallel I'm seeking from this set is the Herschel card from the "One of a Kind" series.

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 12/17/17
1997 Score Team Platinum # 13
These red bordered parallels of the '97 Score set, are not at all easy to track down. Yet another variation that I was completely unaware of until a short time ago. Card image courtesy of comc.com

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 12/10/17
2010 Classics Timeless Tributes Silver #223
For a long time, the Trading Card Database did not have any cards listed of Herschel Walker for the year, 2010. Then one time when I was checking out COMC, this card was listed in their sold out section.
I contacted the good folks at the TCDB, and sent visual evidence of the card; and they created an empty space for it. I would love to fill that space, and add this card to the Hoard.

2013 Upper Deck Ultimate Quad Jersey #UJ4-CJSW
Picked up a nice Upper Deck Ultimate Quad Jersey card of Herschel, with 3 other star running backs. There is a jersey swatch from each player. In this particular case, Walker shares the card with Earl Campbell, Bo Jackson and Billy Sims.
This is a 10 card set; and Herschel Walker is actually in the set on three different cards. Besides this example, he is on a card with Barry Sanders, Bo and Earl; and also with Barry, Billy and Bo.

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 1 Day Late 12/4/17
1992 Wild Card Stat Smashers 100 Stripe #SS50
I got busy Sunday and forgot to post my Herschel, Seek of the Week card, so here it is on Monday. The higher striped cards are a lot harder to find in both the Stat Smashers, and Field Force subsets, than the regular set.

Welcome both of you, to the Herschel Hoard.

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 11/26/17
2004 Playoff Honors Alma Mater Materials #AM-35 Herschel Walker/ Shaun Alexander
This week's "seek", is a 2004 Playoff Honors Alma Mater Materials AM-35. It's a dual jersey swatch memorabilia card, featuring both Herschel, and Shaun Alexander, who went to Alabama.
The single player card of this issue, featuring just Herschel, and a swatch from a Georgia jersey, is #AM-22. That card is already in the Hoard. The above image is courtesy of COMC.

Herschel Hoard Seek of the Week 11/19/17
1994 Upper Deck Electric Gold #262
Every Sunday I will be listing a "Seek of the Week" card. That is a Herschel Walker card that is not currently in the Herschel Hoard, and one that I have been chasing.
Today's card is a 1994 Upper Deck Electric Gold #262 of Walker. I have this card also listed in my top ten most wanted list at the top right of this blog.
I have the base card, and the Electric Silver, but so far the Gold version has eluded me. The only difference is the coloring of the word electric at the bottom of the card front. This version, as you would expect is gold colored.
This card image is courtesy of www.comc.com. That's check out my cards. com. A wonderful site, from which I have bought many cards. I thank them and heartily recommend the site for collectors.

2008 Upper Deck Premiere Rare Materials PP2HW, PP3HW 15/25/50
Here are three more Herschel cards I picked up for the Hoard. All are variations of the 2008 Upper Deck Premiere Rare Materials set.
The first is serial numbered to 15, with this example being #14.
The next is the dual patch card, serial numbered to 25, with this card being #3. Below is the last card, serial numbered to 50, with this being card #34.

2005 Donruss Significant Signatures Gold #114
I added another nice Herschel autographed card to the Hoard. This is a 2005 Donruss Significant Signatures Gold card. It's serial numbered to 50, with this being card #43.

1997 Score Reserve Collection #255
Not in my top ten most wanted listed, but not far off. It took a long time for this card to become available to me, and I'm pleased to add it to the Herschel Hoard.
There are 6 cards in the 1997 Score set, which have the same image of Walker on the front. The base card, hobby reserve, artist's proof, showcase, team collection and this card, which is just called reserve.
They don't show up too often, and are usually pricey when they do. As I've said previously, any time I can obtain a Walker card from his active playing days, which I don't already have, it's a great find.

2012 Exquisite Dimensions Autographs #EBHW
As promised in my last post on the Hoard, here is a second, very thick trading card of Herschel Walker.
This example is a 2012 Exquisite Dimension Autographs #EBHW. Like the 2011 Exquisite card previously showed, this card is about 5/8ths of an inch thick It's so thick that, as can be seen on the front of the card, the "Upper Deck, Exquisite, Dimensions" text, just above the UGA logo, looks blurred on the scan because of the thickness.
However, this has a much cleaner signature than the 2011 card.

2011 Exquisite Dimensions Autograph #D-HW (A Real Thick Card!)
This is one of the thickest trading cards I've ever come across. It's about 5/8ths of an inch thick, and would probably take a 300 pt holder to house it. I looked it up, and apparently the athlete signs on a plastic sheet, which is then sandwiched between the front and the back of the card.
I like it, but the autograph seems a little muddy with this process. As I am pretty much a Herschel collector exclusively, I don't always know what I'm going to get when I purchase a card. By that I mean, I only want as many different cards of Walker as possible, and I'm not always familiar with how a card looks from a particular set. In this case, I was surprised by how thick it was. With cards this thick, storage is an issue. Even my toploader binder, which I reviewed earlier on this blog, won't come close to holding it. Right now, it's in a plastic case designed to hold several loose cards. I may buy a large magnetic holder down the road.
My next post will feature a similarly thick card from 2012.

2004 Playoff Prime Signatures Proofs Bronze #29
This is an example of a 2004 Playoff Prime Signatures Proofs Bronze #29 of Herschel Walker. The Bronze subset is serial numbered to 134, with this example being #104.
There are 11 variations in the Prime Signatures series which depict Herschel, of which I have four.

2012 SP Authentic Canvas Legends Autographs #CL3
Here is a nice example of a 2012 SP Authentic Canvas Legends Autographs card of Herschel. I really like the sepia tone of this card, and the signature really pops.

2012 SPx Shadow Box #SB-HW
Here is a 2012 Shadow Box card of Herschel Walker, from the SPx series. I'm up to 611 different Walker cards now. Can I get to 700? Time, and my wallet, will tell.

Two More From The '06 Donruss Gridiron Gear Performers Set
I was able to add two more cards from this set to the Herschel Hoard. First is a 2006 Donruss Gridiron Gear Performers Jersey Card #14: That card is serial numbered to 75, with this example being # 42.
The second is a 2006 Donruss Gridiron Gear Performers Autographs Card # PR=14. This is #4 out of 35 serial numbered cards.
That gives me 8 of the 11 variations in the set.

2006 Donruss Gridiron Gear Performers Jersey Combos Prime PR-14
Lately I've been fortunate to score a bunch of Herschel cards that I've been missing.. Among them is this 2006 Performers Jersey Combo from the Donruss Gridiron Gear series. This card is #9 in a serially numbered run of 20.
There are 11 different versions of the 2006 Gridiron Gear series that feature Herschel, including autographed and memorabilia cards. I now have six in the Hoard.
